Don't force us to slam it and put it on earlies!!!
1st Place winner at this years VW Classic Show!!
This car is a total body-off restoration. No expense spared resotring it. New German paint inside and out. Very detailed inside the trunk area etc. All metal work was done before paint. We used 2 gallons of Glasurit L-51 Bordeaux Red single-stage paint, (the best). The interior is as it was in 1951 with all new materials. German wool headliner, German cloth for seats and panels, German sq weave carpets, etc.
The chassis was stripped and painted and assembled with all new parts. The floors and heater channels were still original and not replaced. Also the fenders, hood, deck lid are also all original German. Original VW muffler, air filter, D regulator, star coil, round carb stand, seamed shroud, cooling tins, generator, strap, oil filler, carb, fuel pump, 8mm line, pulleys, nuts, etc. Original km speedo and clock re-built by North Hollywood speedometer, steering wheel by Koch’s, and the pedal cluster re-bushed. Original gas tank, (cap I don’t know), front beam, and glass (except the windshield-new laminated, BFY), and original aluminum trim pieces, hood handle, emblem, and pope’s nose. New NOS windshield wipers. Exterior handles were re-chromed along with the bumpers and interior handles and hubcaps. Original 16” wheels with new Coker Tire 5.00 X 16 reproductions. New Zarwerks cloth wiring harness. The brakes are new, but use new German 2-bolt wheel cylinders. I have the old 4-bolt cylinders available and they go with the car. All the knobs are new reproductions by Brezelwerks. All switches new and/or NOS.
The car was manufactured on April 10th, 1951. The chassis number is 1-243486. According to Progressive Refinements, at 1-243781 they started with the Wolfsburg crest. At 1-244668 they started the chrome around the front windshield. They list the ‘crotch coolers’ as April 13th. Also the door switches were added on the 13th. So it appears as a 1950, just missing the critical improvements. At the Classic this year, it ended up with an ‘Award of Excellence’ trophy.
